The Empire conceived by Sigmar has stood for more than a thousand years, but now it rests on the edge of destruction – the reign of the greedy and incompetent Emperor Boris Goldgather has shaken down the great and prosperous edifice of his erstwhile realm. Without warning, a terrible and deadly plague strikes, followed by a tide of monsters from the skaven. In the face of this horrifying threat the beleaguered armies of the Empire muster to defend their cities' walls, and the skaven find more than they had expected as an army of the dead rises in Sylvania. As war sweeps across Sigmar’s realm, a hero rises in the north and begins to embrace his destiny as the future leader of a united Empire – if he can survive the trials to come. Read it because If you want a tale of epic heroes triumphing against impossible odds (and who doesn't want that?), you can't get much better than an Empire divided, brought low by plague and greed, and besieged by the numberless hordes of the skaven. Impossible odds indeed... Just as well there's a hero up to the task in these three novels detailing one of the Empire's darkest periods.
